FEMA denies Gov. Hochul's request for assistance for Suffolk residents affected by August flooding

A spokesperson for the governor says they plan to appeal the decision.

Another setback for some Suffolk residents who are struggling to rebuild after the devastating flooding last summer.
People News 12 spoke with did not take the news well that FEMA denied the governor’s request for assistance.
Residents struggling since August’s storm say they are working to repair their homes but need financial help.
Robert Camardella is one of many on Park Street with extensive damage, left footing the bill for repairs.
He says the basement filled up with water, there was a foot of water in his house and he is ripping up all of the floors.
FEMA says it did preliminary damage assessments and Suffolk did not meet the severity requirements.
The governor says she plans to appeal the decision.
Federal assistance has been granted to help rebuild destroyed infrastructure.
