Nassau police announced on Monday an arrest and named the victim in Saturday’s fatal shooting of a teenager in Hempstead.
According to police, Jeremias ferrufino-Rodriguez, 18, shot Jefferson Mancia-Fernandez, 19, just after noon near the intersection of west Graham Avenue and Peninsula Boulevard.
Police say Ferrufino-Rodriguez fired one shot from his car while the victim was crossing the street. The victim was shot in the chest and died from his injuries at a nearby hospital.
Ferrufino-Rodriguez was arrested at his home in Hempstead on Sunday.
Police say the two teens knew each other and called it a “targeted event.” They say there was some friction between them and on that particular day they ended up in the same location.
Police do not believe this is gang related.
Ferrufino-Rodriguez was charged with murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
