Hundreds of students from The Wheatley School spent the day volunteering in dozens of ways.
It’s part of the annual "Wheatley's Day of Service and Learning,” which began in 2009 in the spirit of service following the 9/11 attacks.
Hitasha Kasliwal and other students built a doghouse for a dog in need of shelter.
Others, including Natalia Iglesias, worked on making birthday boxes for kids in need.
“It’s taught me to never take anything for granted and to always help others and whenever you can do something good for someone else, to always try to do it," she said.
Others volunteered off-site, like Aadi Patel, who said he chose to work with plants at the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation and Audubon Center in Oyster Bay Cove because he loves nature.
The day was organized by teachers Nicole Girgenti and Samantha Vulin.
