You can dress up all you want, but there is no masking the cost of Halloween costumes this year.
The National Retail Federation’s annual Halloween consumer survey found total Halloween spending in 2024 is expected to reach $11.6 billion, with $3.8 billion of that going to costumes.
“Costumes are anywhere from about $20 to about $200, depending on what you're trying to be,” said consumer expert Caleb Silver.
Silver says the popularity of the costume can indicate the price.
“Deadpool is back and so is Beetlejuice, so expect to see a lot of them around trick-or-treating this year.”
If you are looking to save, there are many ways to do so.
According to Goodwill Industries International's 2024 Halloween Survey, 57% of Americans plan to make their own costumes to save money.
By utilizing supplies you already have at home or by taking advantage of consignment stores, some shoppers tell News 12 they have been able to keep some costumes around $10. Ultimately, it is up to you to decide what that one-day wear is worth.
