Suffolk County police say they have made an arrest in connection to a string of targeted robberies involving delivery drivers across the South Shore, with at least five incidents reported since late February.
“These are definitely planned,” said Suffolk Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina. “There were phone calls made to these delivery people and they were told to go to a certain location where the robberies took place. These are not crimes of opportunity.”
According to police, the suspects have been stealing cash and cellphones from drivers during deliveries. Three of the incidents occurred in North Bellport, with others reported in Shirley and Patchogue. The latest robbery happened Sunday night on Michigan Avenue in North Bellport.
Police are urging delivery drivers in the area to remain cautious, emphasizing the importance of confirming delivery addresses and avoiding transactions that occur outside homes or in the street.
