Suffolk County police say a 43-year-old Dix Hills man was charged with second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of his 75-year-old father.
The shooting happened at the family’s Bruno Lane home around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Officials say Christopher Miller came downstairs with a shotgun, and when his father, John Miller, tried to take the weapon from him, Christopher shot him multiple times.
Christopher Miller then fled and hid in a shed on Seaman Neck Road.
John Miller was a retired Suffolk County detective and a member of the Wyandanch Fire Department.
