Nothing says fall in our area quite like maples, but in this week's Garden Guide we explore a few other amazing, colorful trees you may not have noticed also put on an incredible display of color.
The weather plays a major role in brining out the fall color in our trees. Cool mornings and warm, sunny afternoons typically bring out the best color, but this autumn has been exceptionally dry. The color this year seems to be exceptionally vibrant, but we're noticing many trees are not holding onto their colorful leaves as long as they would have if we had our normal September rainfall.
The good news is the pleasant weather gives us more time to enjoy the fall scenery and the lack of storms haven't damaged the leaves so even if they do fall off the trees sooner, they'll look beautiful as they fall and you'll see lots of leaves on the ground that would look great pressed under books and preserved for arts and craft projects.
