Fire officials say no one was hurt during a basement fire Sunday afternoon in downtown Massapequa.
News 12 is told flames did not spread to the first floor. Black smoke could be seen coming out of a side door.
Firefighters had to break windows of neighboring shops to get access to the fire.
Seaford, Wantagh, and Amityville fire departments assisted in quelling the flames.
According to the Nassau fire marshal, Bridal Reflections was open for business and operating when employees and occupants reported smoke coming from the floor as the fire alarm activated.
Customers and employees then safely exited the premises.
Officials say the fire originated in the basement in a storage area for wedding dresses, approximately 100 to 200 dresses. Remaining areas of the building sustained moderate smoke damage throughout as a result of the fire.
Nassau County Fire Marshal Investigators were on the scene along with Nassau County Police Department Arson/Bomb detectives.
The cause of the fire was not considered suspicious, but an exact cause remained undetermined as of Sunday night.
Massapequa Fire Chief Jeffrey Friedland told News 12 the fire started in a basement under The Coffee Grind.
Bridal Reflections NY, a neighboring business, posted an update on its
Instagram page saying that "all of our customer dresses are fine."
